Dolly Parton’s Family Mourns the Loss of Beloved Brother David

Heartbreak has once again struck the Parton family with the passing of David Parton, Dolly’s beloved brother. David, 82, passed away peacefully at his Tennessee home on November 15.

According to Dolly’s sister Stella, David was a kind-hearted and compassionate man, affectionately known as “sweet David.” His dedication to his family and community was evident in his service in the U.S. Marine Corps and successful career as a bridge-building superintendent.

David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay, daughters Donna and Dena, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His siblings, including Dolly and Stella, are also grieving his loss.

The family will hold a funeral service at Leadvale Baptist Church on November 19, followed by burial at Dandridge Memorial Gardens.

David’s passing comes after a string of losses for the Parton family. His brothers Larry, Floyd, and Randy, as well as their parents, Robert and Avie Lee, preceded him in death.

Randy, a talented singer and songwriter, passed away in January 2021 after battling cancer. Dolly remembered him fondly, highlighting their musical collaborations, including the duet “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You.”

Floyd, a country songwriter and “renaissance man,” died in December 2018. His obituary celebrated his many talents, love of nature, and culinary skills.

The family’s faith has been a source of comfort during these difficult times. As they mourn David’s loss, they find solace in the memories of his unwavering love and dedication.

Though the Parton family faces another devastating loss, David’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. His family and community will deeply miss him, but his love and generosity will never be forgotten.

As the Parton family navigates this difficult time, they are grateful for the support of Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice and Dr. David McNabney, who cared for David in his final days.

David’s passing leaves an unfillable void, but his family’s love and faith will sustain them through the darkness. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.
