The Parton family is once again grieving the loss of a loved one. Dolly Parton’s brother, David Parton, passed away on November 15 at his home in White Pine, Tennessee. He was 82 years old.
David’s passing was announced by his sister Stella on social media, who remembered him as a kind, devoted, and compassionate man. He was affectionately known as “sweet David” by those who knew him. Stella also highlighted David’s service in the U.S. Marine Corps.
David had a successful career as a bridge-building superintendent for Simpson Construction, contributing to several projects in Knoxville, Johnson City, and Kingsport. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay, their daughters Donna and Dena, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a funeral service for David at Leadvale Baptist Church in White Pine on November 19. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., and he will be buried at Dandridge Memorial Gardens the following day.
David’s passing is the latest in a series of losses for the Parton family. His brothers Larry, Floyd, and Randy, as well as his parents, Robert and Avie Lee, all passed away before him.
Randy Parton, who passed away in January 2021, was a talented singer, songwriter, and entertainer who led his own show at Dollywood and played in Dolly’s band for many years. Dolly remembered Randy fondly, recalling their duets and his contributions to her music.
Floyd Parton, who died in December 2018, was a “renaissance man” with many talents and interests. He was a songwriter and musician who contributed to Dolly’s music, including the hit song “Nickels and Dimes.”
The Parton family’s grief is palpable, but they are finding comfort in their faith and the memories they shared with their loved ones. David’s legacy of love, generosity, and dedication will be deeply missed, but it will also continue to inspire his family and friends.
