Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time for family, friends, and feasting. But for me, it’s also a reminder of the time my mother-in-law, Gloria, crossed a line that would change our family dynamics forever.
Gloria had always been a bit of a handful. She would often show up unannounced, criticize my cooking, and offer unsolicited advice. But I had always tried to brush it off, thinking that she was just trying to help. That was until she pulled off the ultimate stunt.
As we sat down to eat on that fateful Thanksgiving Day, Gloria unveiled her “masterpiece”: a perfectly roasted turkey with a laminated photo of my face pinned to its breast. The room fell silent, and I felt my face burning with humiliation.
But I refused to let Gloria get the better of me. Instead, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I snapped a photo of the turkey and posted it on Facebook, along with a caption that read: “Need a centerpiece for your holiday table? Gloria’s custom ‘turkey selfies’ are the talk of the season!”
The response was overwhelming. People started commenting and sharing the post, and soon Gloria was inundated with calls and messages. She was furious, but I just smiled sweetly and told her that she should be grateful for the attention.
In the end, Gloria’s antics became the stuff of local legend. She was dubbed “the turkey lady,” and while she’d never admit it, her behavior cooled significantly after that. As for me, I learned that sometimes revenge is best served with a side of humor.
