Jay Leno, the legendary 74-year-old comedian and former host of “The Tonight Show,” is getting ready to step away from the limelight for good. A car enthusiast through and through, Leno is now focused on making plans for his future, including a generous donation to a car museum.
Following his successful television career, Leno launched the popular web series Jay Leno’s Garage (2015-2022), where he showcased his love for automobiles, attracting over 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube. However, in late 2022, he encountered serious health issues, sustaining severe burns from a garage fire and later being involved in a motorcycle accident, which left him with multiple injuries.
Despite these challenges, Leno’s attention remains on his wife, Mavis, who is currently dealing with dementia. A Los Angeles court has granted him conservatorship over her inheritance due to her “declining health and diminished mental capacity.” According to her neurologist, Mavis is slowly losing awareness, but Leno continues to provide her with constant, dedicated care.
Leno is also preparing for his own eventual passing. He plans to donate his impressive $52 million car collection to a museum through his nonprofit, the JDM Foundation. In addition, he will leave $7 million to his nephew and Mavis’s brother.
