My dad and I shared a special bond after Mom passed away. We were inseparable, relying on each other for comfort and support. But everything changed when Dad started dating again.
I helped him navigate online dating, and we’d laugh together at the silly profiles. But then, he met Martha.
One evening, I walked into the living room to find Dad and Martha cuddled up on the couch. Dad’s face turned bright red as he introduced me as his “housekeeper.” I felt a mix of shock and betrayal.
Martha asked me to clean the bedroom, implying that Dad and she had spent the night together. I was furious.
Determined to teach Dad a lesson, I devised a plan. I walked back into the living room, loudly remarking on the mess from Dad’s previous night with someone else. Martha’s face turned red with anger, demanding to know who Dad was with the day before.
Dad stuttered, unable to respond. Martha’s fury boiled over, and she slapped him, storming out of the house.
Dad looked at me, angry and helpless. “Clara, why did you do that?” he asked.
I crossed my arms, satisfied. “You lied about me, Dad. If you’re going to date, be honest.”
Dad chuckled, then laughed uncontrollably. We both laughed, releasing the tension.
“Really, Dad, someone like her? She’s annoying!” I exclaimed.
Dad shrugged. “She didn’t like kids. I shouldn’t have lied.”
I rolled my eyes. “If someone doesn’t like kids, they’re not worth your time.”
Dad apologized, promising no more secrets. We hugged, reaffirming our bond.
“Let’s order pizza and watch a movie,” Dad suggested. I grinned. “Perfect.”
In that moment, I realized that honesty and loyalty were essential in our relationship. Dad learned a valuable lesson, and I proved that this “house cleaner” knew how to tidy up more than just rooms.
