Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, the debate between a round and flat Earth continues to rage on. However, a recent video from space may have finally put the argument to rest. An astronaut’s simple yet powerful gesture has provided irrefutable proof of the Earth’s curvature, leaving flat earthers with little ground to stand on.
The video, posted on TikTok by the account spacemandu, shows the astronaut waving at the camera before flipping it to reveal the stunning view of the Earth’s curvature. The caption “Someone said Earth was flat” is a tongue-in-cheek response to the ongoing debate.
This video is not the only evidence of the Earth’s shape. For nearly two decades, NASA has been documenting and archiving images of the Earth from space. One such image, captured by NASA’s Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite in 2015, shows the entire sunlit side of the Earth from one million miles away. The image is a breathtaking representation of our planet as a beautiful blue and white swirled sphere.
Further evidence comes from SAGE III, a scientific tool that tracks atmospheric data, including water vapor and ozone. Its images, captured from a side angle, offer a unique perspective on the Earth’s shape, similar to watching a sunset.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, the flat Earth theory persists. Astrophysicist Paul M. Sutter suggests that this belief stems from a lack of trust in experts. “By claiming Earth is flat, people are really expressing a deep distrust of scientists and science itself,” he wrote.
Renowned scientist Professor Brian Cox has also debunked the flat Earth theory. “There is no basis for thinking the world is flat. The Greeks measured the Earth’s radius centuries ago. It’s inconceivable why anyone would believe otherwise.” He added, “The simple fact is that we’ve taken pictures of it. It’s the most nonsensical suggestion a thinking person could make. It’s drivel.”
