A Desperate Plea: Family of Five Faces Eviction Despite Struggles

A young family from Rotherham is on the brink of homelessness after receiving an eviction notice from their rented home on Brunswick Street, Thurnscoe. Parents Amy Winter, 26, and Joshua Thain, 27, are struggling to make ends meet, relying on Universal Credit to support their three children, Sky, five, Daisy-Mae, four, and 18-month-old Lexi.

To make matters worse, Amy is five months pregnant with their fourth child, while their nine-year-old son, Macauli, lives with Amy’s mother due to lack of space. Despite their efforts to seek help, the family feels abandoned by Barnsley Council, who they claim have been aware of their situation but have failed to provide adequate support.

The family’s troubles began when Joshua’s late mother, Victoria Robertshaw, passed away in August, leaving behind a tenancy agreement with Sanctuary Housing. Since then, the family has struggled to pay rent, leading to a court order that demands their eviction by January 31.

Amy expressed her frustration and desperation, saying, “We’re worried all the time, and we don’t know what to do. We’ve asked our family for help, but they can’t take us in. The only person trying to help is my partner’s uncle, but he lives far away in Somerset.”

As the family faces an uncertain future, they are calling on Barnsley Council to take action and provide them with the support they desperately need. With time running out, the family’s fate hangs in the balance, leaving many to wonder if it’s right to evict them from their home.
