Kendra and Maliyah Herrin, conjoined twins born on February 26, 2002, have defied the odds and inspired countless people with their remarkable story. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the twins were joined at the abdomen and pelvis, sharing several vital organs, including a kidney, liver, and bladder.
Their parents, Erin and Jake, faced an impossible decision: keep the twins together, risking life-threatening health problems, or attempt a high-risk separation surgery. The stakes were high, with only a 75% success rate for such operations.
After much deliberation, Erin and Jake decided to proceed with the surgery. On August 7, 2006, a team of six skilled surgeons successfully separated the twins. Kendra kept her kidney, while Maliyah required a transplant.
