Walmart is making some tough decisions this year, closing 22 underperforming stores across the U.S. The retail giant confirmed one of the first closures will be its Brook Road Neighborhood Market in Richmond, Virginia, shutting its doors for good on July 28.
The company hasn’t released a full list of locations yet, but four Chicago stores are already confirmed to be on the chopping block. Walmart spokesperson Felicia McCranie thanked loyal customers but emphasized that the closures are necessary due to financial struggles at these specific stores.
This move reflects a bigger shift in retail—more shoppers are going digital, and companies like Walmart are adjusting their strategies. While some neighborhoods will lose a convenient shopping hub, Walmart promises customers can still get what they need online or at nearby locations.
