Listening to Betrayal: Finding Out the Truth About My Husband

During their yearly vacation, a trip meant to help her get to know her in-laws better turned into a sobering reminder that she didn’t belong with her husband’s family.

Early on in your marriage can be a time of change, especially if you’re trying to fit in with your partner’s family. This woman still wasn’t sure where she fit in her husband’s family, but by the end she felt even more alone and sad.

The woman wrote about what happened on Reddit. She said it was because she and her husband hadn’t been married for very long that she hadn’t spent much time with his family. She did, however, ask her husband if she could join the family holiday that her in-laws took every year.

The wife thought it would be a great chance for her to get to know them better and for them to work on building a relationship, but the husband was worried. Because of this, the husband agreed. She saw that the family was a little surprised to see her, but they still made her feel welcome when they got there.

Things were going well until the third day of the trip, when the truth came out. The husband, his brother, mother, father, and other spouses were sitting outside while the Redditor was inside making a fruit salad.

As she walked to the door, her mother-in-law asked, “Did she really have nowhere else to spend the weekend?” At first, the wife didn’t get what she was talking about, so she paused to hear more. That’s when she heard her husband say, “I know!!!” I also didn’t want to bring her with me, but what could I do? “You know how pushy she is.” She was sure it had something to do with her right away.

That made her heart break, and she almost dropped the salad bowl she was holding. “This is how they saw me? I cooked, cleaned, and watched the kids the whole time I was there. Being a bother to them?” she asked.

The original poster (OP) couldn’t picture spending another day with the family, especially after finding out that they didn’t want her there. She quickly booked the next flight that was available. She texted her husband to let him know she got home safely, but he didn’t answer.

When he got home, he was mad at his wife and called her “disrespectful and juvenile.” The OP told him that she had heard what he had said to his mother, but he kept saying that she was listening in and that his family was slowly opening up to her.

The wife started to feel bad about herself because she thought she might have ruined everyone’s holiday. Since she found out what her husband had said about her, she asked other Reddit users if she was right to stop the family vacation.

On the other hand, some users were very angry about the OP’s story. A lot of people didn’t agree with the OP’s choice to leave after she found out that her husband hadn’t stood up for her and that she had heard her mother-in-law criticizing her.

One of the comments asked, “Does he even like you?” Someone else said, “NTA.” Please don’t let him gaslight you.” Another reader was shocked that the OP was being treated badly even though she was married and not just a girlfriend that her husband had been seeing for two weeks.

Someone else wrote that they had been through something similar with their ex-husband. She said that when she tried to go on a family trip with him before, he told her it was “only family.” The woman went on vacation with her friends for a week after learning her husband had never thought about her family. When he came back from vacation, she gave him divorce papers.

More people on Reddit were shocked when they saw that she was the only husband who wasn’t allowed to go on vacation with the family. “NTA. Someone else’s spouse is accepted, but not you? “What the hell is going on here?” asked one person.
