Cleft lip and palate is a rare trait that Mia Robertson was born with. She is the youngest daughter of Jase and Missy Robertson from Duck Dynasty. It means Mia has a space in her upper lip, which can also hurt her gum. It’s not a common condition—about 1 in 1,600 kids in the U.S. are born with it—but Mia has been very strong throughout her journey.
At the age of 18, Mia has already had an amazing 13 surgeries to fix her problem. She just had her 14th surgery, and her family is hoping that this will be the last one that fixes her problem. Even though she has had a lot of problems, Mia has always been upbeat. Other kids with cleft lip and palate look up to her.
With the help of her family, Mia started the Mia Moo Fund to make a change and bring attention to the issue. The main goal of the fund is to raise knowledge about cleft lip and palate and help families who are also dealing with the medical problems that come with it.
Miss Mia with her doctors
On Jase Robertson’s show, Unashamed, he talked about Mia’s health and said that she is getting better. A man told her, “She’s doing great.” She’s come around. It looks like everything is going well. Mia is now back at home and on her way to a full recovery, even though the surgery took longer than planned. The Robertson family is very thankful for all the thoughts and support that have been sent their way.
Missy Robertson, Mia’s mother, talked about her daughter’s health before the surgery. When asked how many more procedures Mia would need, she always said, “We just don’t know.” Missy said that they put their faith in God and ask Him to lead them. At 18, Mia is now the one who makes decisions about her health and what to talk about. This one-of-a-kind event has taught the family to let go of control and trust in God.
Even Mia herself is hopeful that her medical journey is almost over. She bravely said, “Hopefully this is the last time I’ll see my doctors in this setting!” We’re finally at the end of a long journey.
Robertson family has taken in a child whose mother was not able to care for them and opened their home and hearts to them. This act of love and kindness really shows what kind of people the Robertsons are.
Let’s all help Mia get better as soon as possible. She is a real winner, and we all look up to her smiles and strength.
