After April’s marriage fell apart, her in-laws started to bother her and look for proof that she is guilty, which is a new problem. Things change drastically, though, when they find shocking proof that their son has been living in secret.
Hello, my name is April, and I’m here to talk about a strange event that happened in my life not long ago. The story is about how, to my surprise, my in-laws learned a lesson. Put on your seat belt!
First, a bit about myself: I’m 28, I love art, I can be a bit careless, and I was recently really sad that I wasn’t with someone.
My ex-husband Liam, who is thirty years old, seemed like the love of my life until he dropped a surprise a few months into our marriage. I asked him if he was gay or straight.
Not that I’m queer, but that I was hiding it, that shocked me. I felt a lot of different feelings before I decided I didn’t mind if we were monogamous.
I would really rather not have any open partnerships. “If that’s what you want, then you should be with someone else because it’s not me,” I made it clear.
Liam told me he didn’t need anyone else and that I was the only person who was right for him. As it turns out, agreements aren’t always kept.
What did you find after a while? I learned that he was seeing someone. And not just with any guy, but also with another man.
You might be wondering, how? Well, the way he did it now, through his iPad, was just as dishonest as he was when it came to keeping secrets. These were the pictures: To put it simply, a lot like Mapplethorpe.
What happened next was an epic battle. “I can’t believe you would do this to us!” I yelled, and my voice echoed through the house that had been my dream.
He just stood there without saying anything or saying sorry. That was the last blow. “I don’t want you in my house again,” I told him. “Ever,” I really meant it.
Liam had to get his things together after our big fight, but I couldn’t let him back into my life or my house, for that matter.
So, we agreed that I would put everything in a box and send me a list by email. That was easy, right? It should have been, yes. That wasn’t going to happen, Liam had hoped to pick up his things himself.
As part of our deal, I agreed to give his parents a temporary code to get into my house. I trusted them because they are good people. I also had my security cams set up, so I wasn’t in charge of any bad things that happened.
Their plan couldn’t be hacked: they would enter the code, take the box from the front door, lock up, and leave. As easy as pie. After all, that was the original plan.
His parents finally show up one day, use the code, and take the box. So far, everything seems fine, right? Not true. His mother, may God bless her, couldn’t help but take a short break. She is seen going straight to my bedroom on the security video I have.
Not because I’m scared, but because seeing someone in my private place makes me feel so bad that my heart is beating fast. I can’t help but laugh out loud when the story gets messier.
She opens my top chest of drawers, which is where we kept our jewelry, and pulls out this big, mysterious package. She looks inside through her shoulder like a cartoon thief.
I promise that her answer is valuable. Remember that I could only see and not hear? It looks like she’s about to scream.
She quickly leaves the room, puts everything back where it belongs, and almost runs to their truck. The whole scene of finding the pictures of Liam’s little mishaps.
How could you not find that funny? It’s just too ironic. She went there to find dirt and came back with enough for a whole garden!
To keep with the funny moment my mother-in-law gave us out of the blue, let’s zoom out and look at the bigger picture.
Before all of this happened, Liam and I made a prenuptial deal that had a bit of what looks like foresight in it.
Yes, but this isn’t any prenuptial agreement—it has a very clear rule that says the other person gets everything if the first person cheats. Yes, that’s what I think. I’ve always had a sneaking feeling that Liam would break my heart. I’m not sure if it was instinct or just me being careful.
And so, when his affair ended badly, I was there with proof that he had been cheating on me.
When I told him I wasn’t going to follow through on the prenuptial agreement, he gave me baby eyes and begged me not to. said it would put him in debt and, worst of all, make him tell his parents about his mess.
I agreed, even though I now see that it was too kind of me. After all, who was I to mess up someone else’s life?
This is the really bad news. Liam was telling stories, and as a nice soon-to-be-ex-wife, I was listening.
I was crushed to find out that he had told his parents a totally different story—that I had cheated on him and that he, the hero, had broken the prenuptial agreement out of kindness. That’s right.
On that terrible day, his parents came to my house thinking they were looking for proof that I had betrayed them. They didn’t just pack up his things and leave; instead, they looked around for proof that I was cheating on him.
Can you picture the shock on their faces when they found the racy photographs of Liam’s behavior instead of any proof against me? In my bedroom, their whole story just came out.
In that case, where were we? Yes, those are the main effects. Just as I thought things couldn’t get any worse, my phone rang. Liam is here, and he’s very angry.
He says I meant for those inappropriate pictures to be found by his parents. I hadn’t done that, even though I love a good story twist.
I thought about putting them on top of the box to make a point, but I knew it would be too harsh. His family has always been nice to me, you know?
Still but strict, “I didn’t leave them out on purpose, Liam,” I told him on the phone to try to explain. “You did say your mom was looking for the ring you forgot to list, right?” She knew where to look for it because you told her.
“Yeah, but I forgot until they were almost there,” he replied, sounding both mad and ashamed.
I let out a sigh and hoped he had been more calm. I said, “Well, if you had told me earlier, I would have put it in the box.”
The worst part was that Liam was more mad that his parents found out he was cheating on them than he was about cheating.
Soon, the conversation went from charges to feeling sorry for oneself. He moaned, “I can’t stay at their house right now.” “I need to go somewhere else.” April, you’ve really done it this time. “You’re so mean.”
Not humane? Really? In fact, Liam had been cooking up this meal since his mistake, and karma was just serving it up.
After the call was over, I couldn’t help but think about the whole story. There was a lot of confusion, but something felt better. I felt like I could breathe again after a long time of being stuck in a web of lies and deceit. I was excited to start over.
Now I’ll talk to you, my dear friends. In this story, am I the bad guy or am I just watching the crazy life of a man who can’t take responsibility for what he does? Karma did what it does all the time, right?
We would really like to hear your thoughts, ideas, and maybe even some of your own stories that are connected. What do you think about it? There was a lot of mess going on here. Was this symbolic justice?
