In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina flooded Louisiana and caused a lot of damage, Sandra Bullock had a feeling that made her decide to adopt a child.
“Two things told me that my child was in New Orleans when Katrina hit.” Hoda Kotb of Today asked Bullock about it and she said, “It was weird.”
After many years, in January 2010, Bullock got the call she had been waiting for years.
“He showed up out of the blue; it wasn’t planned.” The 59-year-old Speed star tells CBS News, “I got a call one day and said, ‘Your placement is here.'” That was years after he filed it.
Little Lou Bullock was a three-month-old boy from New Orleans that Bullock quietly adopted in 2010. She was so happy about him that she said, “I looked at him like, ‘Oh, there you are.'” She said, “It felt like he had always been there.” “He fit in the bend of my arm.” He looked me straight in the eyes. He knew a lot. My kid was smart.
The Miss Congeniality star also says, “The beautiful thing was that I was told all the time, ‘The perfect child will find you.'” Your child will be found. But you don’t think that when it’s not true. When you’re asking, “Where is my family?” If it does happen, you’ll know what they’re talking about.
Bullock was on stage at the Kodiak Theatre to accept her first Oscar for her lead part in the movie The Blind Side, weeks after Lou got there.
But Lou was the star of the show, and she wanted to be with him at home.
“I could only think, ‘He’s at home,'” she said. I really didn’t care. I just wanted to get home and forget about being there. After that, the dress was put on me. Because I was sewn into the dress, I had to take it off. But all I wanted to do was go home and feed Lou.
A few days later, her marriage to reality star Jesse James ended, leaving Bullock to raise her baby by herself.
She told him, “I mean, so much had happened.” How can you deal with your sadness without hurting your child? When you give birth, the baby feels everything you feel. Lou was my duty, and I had to keep my sadness out of the first year of his life.
Louis” took the lead.
When asked about switching her focus from work to being a mom, Bullock said, “No one understands the shift in priorities that having a child in your life brings… until you have a child in your life.” “Of course it changes—he showed up, and now Louis’s on stage.”
Little Lou looked up at his mom one day and said, “I’m going to have a baby soon.” He grew up in a healthy, happy home.
Bullock says she didn’t want to have more children, but she listened to her son, who started the idea.
“That’s when I thought, Maybe he knew something.” She added, “Now that I think about it, it would have been around the time Laila was born.” “That’s how Louis does things.” Louis is very strong. He is a great boss, and I followed him to Lai.
Laila is her daughter. She came to live with them when she was three years old and was living in foster care in Louisiana.
The Ocean’s 8 actress remembered Laila’s trauma from childcare. “She’d be in the closet with all her clothes on, she’d be hiding, she’d always be ready to leave,” she said of her daughter. The actress also said that she always made sure Laila knew she wasn’t “going anywhere.”
He was like a father to her children and her partner from 2015 until he died of ALS in 2023. She then talked about a conversation she had with Bryan Randall about Laila. “My partner told me, ‘When she’s been with us longer than she hasn’t been, I think things are going to change,’” she said.
He was right. Bullock recently said that Laila was “not afraid.”
“The reason she’s here today is because she doesn’t give up. She fought hard to keep her spirit strong. Oh my God, look what she’s going to do. She’s going to make a real difference.
“Lou, who is 13 now, is really sensitive…”He’s smart and nice,” the Bird Box star tells People. “That’s what I saw when they gave him to me.” There was something spiritually big about him.
Fans will be upset, but the versatile star is cutting back on her work to become a single mother again.
The last movies Bullock was in were The Lost City with Channing Tatum and Bullet Train with Brad Pitt, both in 2022.
She said, “Right now, work in front of the camera needs to take a break. I can be creative and be a part of a community.”
