A VHS tape, a landline phone, and a Walkman are all things that kids today would look at and have no idea what they are. I grew up during a time of great technological progress, and it’s amazing to see how quickly ordinary household items that had been used for years became useless.
I have to say I had no idea what the thing below was when I first saw a picture of it. I was sure it was some kind of metal tool, but I had no idea what else it was. Can you remember and name this thing?
Like what you see? An old oil can opener tip! It looks like this thing is from a long time ago, but it was actually made in the 1980s. In those days, the tool was used to make a hole in the top of the can, and the spout was used to pour oil. Even though it looks pretty easy, this thing is actually very smart.
My memories of the 1980s are so fresh. It’s hard to believe that the 1980s were that long ago! These openers aren’t used very often these days, but I bet a lot of people still have one in their garage somewhere. Naturally, people, especially engineers, like to collect them! This cool little gadget might be worth picking up if you see one at a yard sale or an old store.
