When you’re working as a waiter, your tips serve as immediate feedback on your performance. Ideally, the better you serve and the friendlier your demeanor, the more you should earn.
However, sometimes tips reflect more on the customers than on the service provided, and they can either shatter or restore your faith in humanity.
A waiter from Los Angeles recently experienced this firsthand when he received a tip of just $3.28.
“Nothing is more frustrating than getting a tiny tip while the customer smiles and thanks me profusely as they leave,” the waiter shared.
This meager tip came from a group of four teenagers, which led the waiter to question their upbringing.
But ten days later, everything changed with the arrival of a surprising letter.
“I’ve been in the service industry for a long time,” the waiter wrote. “I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
He added on Imgur, “Those kids returned another day and left this letter for me at the front desk, along with $18 and some change.”
The letter also included a heartfelt message to the teens: “I don’t know how you learned or educated yourself on tipping, but I really appreciate the effort and kindness. I hope your Homecoming was fantastic!”
The teens’ thoughtful gesture has since gone viral, earning praise from people everywhere and highlighting the positive influence of their parents.
