In a tragic accident, six-year-old Lucy Morgan lost her life when a racket broke during a swing, causing a piece of metal from the handle to snap off and pierce her skull. The incident left her with severe injuries.
The Morgan family was on vacation in Limerick, Maine, when the accident occurred. Lucy’s father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, shared the heartbreaking details on his blog. When the metal struck Lucy, she was unresponsive but still breathing. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
“Upon arrival, she was rushed to the operating room where part of her skull was removed to relieve pressure and treat her injury. She coded, was revived, and the surgery was completed,” Jesse wrote. “In the PICU, we were told her chances of recovery were very slim.”
Jesse also shared a touching story from a month before the accident. Lucy had spoken to her mother about meeting God and wanted to be saved. After their conversation, she prayed in her room, asking for forgiveness and expressing her belief in Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesse described this moment as a precious gift.
He provided updates on Lucy’s condition, revealing the devastating reality of her significant lack of brain function over the previous 48 hours. Despite the dire situation, Jesse expressed hope for a miracle, although acknowledging that Lucy showed all signs of brain death.
“Medical personnel did everything they could, but her injuries were too severe,” Jesse later wrote. “Lucy Lynn Morgan passed away around 4am. She now sees Jesus face to face. Thank you for all your love and support.”
To support the family, friends set up a GoFundMe page, which has raised over $140,000, surpassing its initial target of $100,000. Organizer Jill Anthony mentioned that the funds would help cover meals, lodging, medical costs, and other needs. She updated the page after Lucy’s passing, asking for continued prayers for the Morgan family as they navigate this difficult time.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Morgan family. May Lucy rest in peace.
