Benson’s health struggles began at 28 with a bovine valve replacement. Thirteen years later, the valve started causing problems, leading to multiple open-heart surgeries between 1998 and 2010. The second surgery was botched, resulting in breathing difficulties and a traumatic experience with a nurse who tied his hands to the bed.
Despite these challenges, Benson continued working and caring for his family, relying on his wife for support.
