A devastating plane crash in Wyoming claimed the lives of seven members of the renowned Nelon family, a pillar of American gospel music. The tragedy occurred on Friday while the family was en route to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise.
The victims included Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler, her husband Nathan, and two other family members, as well as pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa. The sole survivor was Autumn Nelon Streetman, who wasn’t on the plane.
A poignant video taken before the crash shows the family and pilot laughing and joking on a Nebraska runway. The plane, owned by Haynie Enterprises, crashed into a forest, sparking a massive wildfire.
Autumn Nelon Streetman expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support, saying, “Your love and prayers will help us navigate the difficult days ahead.”
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident. The Nelons were inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016 and have been nominated for three Grammys. Their legacy will live on through their beloved music, including hits like “I Shall Not Be Moved” and “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown.”
